14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 was unveiled during a recent event held in New York City, and the smartphone will be put up for sale on August 19 in the US while pre-orders have already gone live. The device comes with many new features, including a Power Saving Mode that allows users to adjust display resolution.
We reported a few days ago that Samsung might incorporate a Power Saving Mode on its Galaxy Note 7 flagship, and it seems that the rumors have been confirmed. The Power Saving Mode will allow users to scale down the display resolution on the phone, according to SamMobile.
The Galaxy Note 7 sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution (QHD at a PPI of 515), and in order to save battery, users will be able to scale down the display resolution to 1080 x 1920 (FHD at 386PPI).
Display resolution can be scaled down to 720 by 1280 pixels
The Power Saving Mode also comes with the option to limit the maximum display brightness and lower performance levels. Users can also turn off system animations, but it's unclear which common tasks will be affected by this mode, but gaming is surely one of them.
In addition, the Power Saving Mode comes with the option to scale down the display to just 720 by 1280 pixels (HD at 258PPI), and the mode can prevent background network usage if needed.
Users can also customize the mode to allow background network usage or raise the resolution if they want. Samsung says that the Power Saving Mode on the Galaxy Note 7 will extend the battery life of the handset by up to 35 hours.
Many other smartphone manufacturers feature a Power Saving Mode on their devices, but Samsung is believed to be the first to offer users the option to change the resolution on their device in order to extend battery life.
