Samsung announced the discontinuation of its Galaxy Note 7 flagship at the start of the month and the company intends to recall all such smartphones sold worldwide. The CSPC has announced the second recall, but there are multiple investigations into why the phone overheated and caught fire.

The Galaxy Note 7 has already been banned by airlines worldwide; passengers aren’t allowed to take the phone onboard an airplane and Samsung has even set up exchange booths at many airports. In addition, shipping companies have also refused to ship packages containing the Note 7, as they must meet fire-proof requirements.

Samsung is offering Galaxy S7 phones in exchange for the Note 7, and depending on the country, customers can receive cash incentives to bring in their phones.

Out of 45,000 Note 7 units sold in Europe, most of them were in the UK

The South Korean company also warned all of its customers to back up and power off Note 7 units before returning them to the place of purchase. Customers who live in the UK should learn that if they choose to keep using their Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, their home insurance may be invalidated.

Representatives from insurance companies in the UK stated for the Mirror that people who keep the Note 7 could see their home insurance invalidated in case of damage.

And for those interested in numbers, Samsung has sold a total of 45,000 Note 7 smartphones in Europe, the majority in the UK.

“We would expect insurers to allow a reasonable amount of time for people to act but if an item is kept or used against a manufacturer’s advice and causes damage, there is a risk of insurance cover being invalidated, “ said the spokeswoman for the Association of British Insurers.

“We would expect that in the case of fires caused by Galaxy Note 7s to be considered on their own merit,” said Pam Quinn, spokeswoman for the British Insurance Brokers Association.
