Chinese OEM Oppo announced earlier this month that ColorOS 2.1.5i for Find 7 would be the last for this particular smartphone.

According to Oppo, its engineers will concentrate on delivering AOSP builds to Find 7 devices, which are closer to Android stock than to the ColorOS updates released until now.

True to its promise, the Chinese has company announced today that the first beta build for Project Spectrum is now available for Find 7 devices.

Project Spectrum is the name of the Android ROM that's closer to what Google usually releases to Nexus devices. However, Oppo confirmed that this ROM also contains some of the most popular features from ColorOS.

Developers also offer some additional details on Project Spectrum, such as the fact that there are only two supported screen-off gestures for this build: double tap to wake up, and draw a circle to open the camera application.

More features will be released in future builds

Moreover, the ColorOS camera supports a handful of plugins: Beautify, Filters, HDR, GIF, Double exposure and Expert Mode. Still, Oppo promised that additional plugins would be available in the future.

Find 7 owners who decide to flash the new ROM will be able to notice quite a few differences between Project Spectrum and ColorOS.

For example, you can now take a screenshot by holding Power + Volume down for about 2 seconds. Also, to enable the task manager, you must double tap the Home button.

Unlike ColorOS, when you want to share a photo using NFC (Near Field Communication) in Project Spectrum, you must open Google photos, tap the photo you want to share, tap the Share icon, and then select “Android Beam.”

If you plan on flashing this build on your Find 7 smartphone, then you should know that doing so will wipe user data, as such make sure to back up your info before updating in case you want to go back to ColorOS.
