The company claims its budget is incredibly small

Chinese company OnePlus was an overnight hit thanks to its One smartphone that was also nicknamed “the flagship killer.”

With just a few employees at first, OnePlus managed to sell no less than one million smartphones in about a year since the OnePlus One got released on the market.

The feedback from fans was overwhelmingly positive, which convinced the company to start working on OnePlus 2, the next flagship killer that's now expected to be released sometime in July.

Until then, OnePlus has decided to reveal an important component packed inside the 2 each week, and there are two pieces of hardware that we already know of by now.

The fact that the OnePlus 2 will be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor kind of scared fans due to the chipset's infamous overheating issues.

The second piece of hardware that OnePlus confirmed recently is the USB Type C port that will come inside the 2 smartphone.

However, it looks like OnePlus has been faced with lots of criticism from fans who believe that the company is revealing the phone's specs one by one to get more press coverage.

“On that note, some people have spoken out against our way of doing things, specifically in regards to how we announce products. We like to reveal product information as early and as frequently as possible.

“Some are claiming that we make too many announcements. Too many teasers. Too much noise. The narrative is this: OnePlus is revealing the OnePlus 2 in installments in order to get more press coverage,” says OnePlus in a blog post.

“We have to stay loud and relevant to continue going toe-to-toe with the big guys”

Well, it looks like the reason for that approach was pretty simple and that's the fact that OnePlus doesn't have a huge marketing budget at its disposal.

Even if they would have a larger budget for marketing, OnePlus was pretty clear in the fact that they would have invested it in their next product rather than spend it on ads.

“It is true that our marketing budget is incredibly small, so we have to stay loud and relevant to continue going toe-to-toe with the big guys. So, we understand why many would come to the conclusion that we are vying for attention. But, that’s a very, very small part of our thinking.”
