OnePlus is actively working on a new smartphone, according to a post on the company’s official Weibo account, the biggest social network in China. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau reblogged the post, thus revealing that the company is developing a new phone.

However, the post doesn’t say anything about the device’s specifications, or even its name. Recent reports have revealed that OnePlus will skip the number 4 in the retail name, since the Asian culture sees it as being unlucky.

The post also included the company’s “NeverSettle” hashtag, thus confirming that it was indeed referring to the OnePlus 5. The smartphone should arrive sometime in the next two months, considering that the OnePlus 2 was announced in July, while the OnePlus 3 made its debut in June.

Dual-camera setup and high-end specs

Information about the upcoming phone has surfaced in the past few weeks, and a recent render revealed a dual-camera setup on the curved rear panel, which is supposedly made out of metal. Rumors say that the camera sensors will have a capacity of 16MP and a feature for snapping wide-angle photos and capturing more depth information.

The smartphone is said to have a 7mm thick body and a dual-edge 5.5-inch screen on the front, with QHD pixel resolution. The render only showed the back panel of the upcoming phone, without any trace of the fingerprint sensor. This means that OnePlus could place the sensor on the front. Inside, OnePlus 5 will run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 platform and feature 6GB or 8GB of RAM.

OnePlus 5 will most likely run Android Nougat out of the box with the company’s custom UI, OxygenOS, on top. Battery capacity is said to reach at least 3,000mAh, while some reports even point to 4,000mAh. Water and dust resistance are also expected on the upcoming OnePlus 5, which carries the codename A5000. Since the phone is expected to be announced next month, more information will surely surface soon.
