14 DAY TRIAL // Here is some interesting news about the highly-anticipated Android Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones. It appears that Samsung plans to release two different updates for these devices, even though they have similar hardware.
Some of you might remember that Samsung confirmed earlier this month that both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge devices would be upgraded directly to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. However, while this might be true for some S7/S7 edge units, not all of them will receive this update.
Major carrier Vodafone Australia has just confirmed that all Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones in Australia will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, not the most recent one.
“I've checked in with the right people for you @chri5tin3 and @shauno100, and they've confirmed the references to Samsung skipping 7.0 refer to other markets and not to Australia. We're definitely testing 7.0 for both devices.”
Unfortunately, there's no telling which countries will get the newer Android 7.1.1 Nougat and where exactly the slightly older update will be available for the Galaxy S7/S7 edge.
The idea of releasing two different Android Nougat updates for the same smartphones doesn't seem so good and it's also confusing for consumers.
Obviously, carriers might have something to do with it too, but for the most part, we believe Samsung has decided to push Android 7.1.1 Nougat in those markets where it matters.
Instead of delaying the release of Android Nougat for its Galaxy S7/S7 edge smartphones, Samsung probably thought it would be better to just go ahead and release Android 7.0 for all units and Android 7.1.1 where it can.
Either way, we believe that the new Android 7.1.1 Nougat update will be eventually pushed to all Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge units available on the market.
