14 DAY TRIAL // Google has recently released Android Pie to its own devices, and manufacturers are now working on their own release schedule that would bring this latest version of the operating system to their devices.
This isn’t the case of Samsung though, as the world’s number one phone maker is still in the middle of the Oreo rollout, and what’s worse, some devices are yet to receive version 8.0.
In other words, even if Google has already announced Android 9.0, a number of Samsung models haven’t even received Android 8.0 and they are still running 7.0.
While Samsung’s struggle with software updates isn’t quite a new thing, a recent leak shows that the South Korean firm would continue pushing Oreo to its devices even in 2019.
As per AndroidPure, Galaxy J7 Neo will receive Android Oreo in December this year, followed by a handful of models like A9 Pro 2016, C7 Pro, and J7 2017 and 2018 in January 2019. As we reported earlier this month, Samsung’s original schedule indicated that these models were projected to receive the update to Oreo later this year, but by the looks of things, the release has been pushed back by a couple of months for a reason that wasn’t disclosed.
Android Pie rollout for Samsung phones
The more important question for many is when Samsung plans to begin the rollout of the new Android Pie for its phones.
Most likely, flagship phones like the Galaxy S9 would start receiving the new Android version in the first quarter of 2019, as the company will probably use a similar approach to the one for Oreo.
The rollout, however, takes place gradually, and while some devices will receive the new Android version sooner, others will have to wait substantially longer for the same update. There are no official details as to when Pie could be pushed to Samsung’s phones, as all eyes are now on the Note 9 launch planned for August 9.
