Video game developer Hello Games is finally ready to confirm that the launch date for the long-awaited No Man's Sky has been set for June 21 of this year in North America and one day later in Europe, with June 24 selected as the official date for the United Kingdom.

The announcement comes from the PS Blog where Sean Murray, one of the leaders of the studio, states, "We’ve been a little quiet since we showed the game last year at E3, and it’s because we’ve been heads down and hard at work on development. It’s been a hectic but really exciting time for the team. Finishing a game is incredibly hard but lovely to watch as the pieces fall into place."

The date was initially mentioned on Amazon and the game also briefly popped up on the PlayStation Network for pre-order before the reveal, with a 60 dollars or Euro price tag.

The developers are even confirming that they are working with Sony to create a special Blu-ray retail version of No Man's Sky, and it seems that Hello Games also has extensive plans to deliver new features after launch.

Murray further says that the most recent version of the game features a number of new mechanics, including hazardous planets that gamers have to approach carefully to survive and a range of alien races that can be encountered and interacted with at certain moments.

No Man's Sky is a game about exploration and procedurally generated galaxies

The title was first shown off during a Sony press conference at E3 and the two companies said that they are aiming to give players a wide and unique universe to explore however they see fit.

Players start off with a multi-tool, a spaceship and a space suit, and they are then rewarded for visiting new planets, exploring them and gathering information to help built the universal Atlas.

They will get in-game currency for their efforts, which can be used to improve their equipment, but they can also attract unwanted attention from a force of Sentinels that wants to keep the universe as pristine as possible.

No official date has been mentioned for the PC version of No Man's Sky, but it's very likely that the title will arrive at the same time as on the PlayStation 4 given that the developers have said that they want to launch on both platforms at the same time.
