Faulty iPhone 8 brought to Best Buy for repairs

Apple has already confirmed that it’s investigating reports pointing to a battery issue on the iPhone 8, and the company might have more work to do as the number of devices that appear to be suffering from this issue is growing.

This time, an iPhone 8 with a swollen battery has been reported in the United States where an alleged Best Buy employee says a customer brought in a device for repairs.

Very little has been said about the model in question, and it’s not yet clear if the device was an iPhone 8 or an iPhone 8 Plus, but it’s worth noting that all iPhones suffering from similar issues until now were all Plus.

A photo that the Best Buy engineer posted on reddit clearly shows a battery that inflated to the point where the display was pushed out from the frame, just like in the case of the other iPhone models shipped with a swollen battery.

It’s also worth adding that the reddit user who posted this online has since removed the account and the photo without providing any other details.

Apple still tight-lipped on faulty batteries

Apple hasn’t talked too much about these faulty models, but admitted it’s aware of reports of swollen batteries on the iPhone 8 and said it’s investigating all of them in an attempt to determine the cause.

At this point, it’s not known how widespread the issue actually is, but reports of inflated batteries keep coming from different parts of the world, which could be an indication that several lots have been affected.

If there’s a good side of this story is that these devices don’t appear to actually explode due to overheating, with some people claiming that the iPhones shipped with a swollen battery without them even touching the box. Others revealed it all happened during the first charge, so if you’ve already used the device for more than a couple of days, you’re probably safe.
