The most complete MK11 experience to date

I have a strange feeling of déjà vu, since not so long ago I wrote about Mortal Kombat Aftermath and the attempt to offer as little new content as possible for as much money as the publisher can gather. I did not think that I will revisit the topic so soon, and have a different opinion. I have to admit that Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is the best MK11 experience up to date if you have not dabbled in this fighting game before.

So what is Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate? The answer is simple: everything Mortal Kombat 11 has seen on PS4 or Xbox One, and a tiny bit more. You find in the package the base game with all the DLCs, including cosmetics and the Aftermath add-on, but also three new characters: Mileena, Rain, and Rambo. With these additions, you now have a roster of 37 fighters, but this may still expand if the developers chose to drop some more surprises and publish extra DLCs after the Ultimate Edition.

Those who do not want to invest again in the whole package can purchase separately the Kombat Pack 2, including only the three new characters. Mileena and Rain are fan favorites from previous iterations, while Rambo is a completely new addition. It is worth mentioning that unlike The Terminator, where the character is modeled after Arnold Schwarzenegger but presented without his voice acting, Rambo takes full advantage of the acting skills of Sylvester Stallone.

The Ultimate Edition tries to woo its potential buyers not through additions to the game, but through tweaks meant to upgrade the experience using the advanced hardware on which the new generation of consoles is built. That means even sharper textures, dynamic 4k resolution with visual effects pushed to the max, faster loading times, and cross-platform and cross-gen support. Cross-platform support means that in multiplayer the owners of both Xbox and PlayStation consoles can dish it out, while cross-gen support refers to the possibility to import your saves from the previous generation of consoles to the current one.

So if you have everything that MK offered so far, you are better off with just purchasing Kombat Pack 2 if you fancy any of the new fighters. There is nothing else here for you. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate targets those who either did not dip their toes in one of the best fighting games released in the last years, or do not own a PS4 or Xbox One any longer, but want to keep dishing out fatalities on the new gen.

Conclusion

On new generation consoles, Mortal Kombat looks better, it feels much faster and the Ultimate Edition is the most comprehensive offer up to date. If you waited for the ultimate experience of Mortal Kombat, this is the one – everything Mortal Kombat 11 has to offer, at least up to this moment. It is the perfect incentive to try the game for those who avoided it until now, but offers little to those who already experienced it on the previous console generation. Mortal Combat 11 Ultimate is getting the thumb up from us.
