Upgrade Advisor app for Windows Phone in the works

The Get Windows 10 app that’s available on Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs will soon have a sibling on Windows Phone devices, as Microsoft’s working on a new tool that would allow users of its smartphone platform to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile more easily.

Currently called Upgrade Advisor, the new app is supposed to help you find out whether your Windows Phone device can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile or not, providing you with a set of options to better manage the process.

As WMPU reports, there are three different scenarios possible after you install the app: it can tell you that your phone is eligible for the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile and you can start the process right away; prompt you to install another update before the upgrade; or inform that your device can’t get W10M at all.

File management options, including cloud uploads

If the phone can indeed be upgraded, the app determines the amount of space needed for Windows 10 Mobile, and if more storage is required, it gives options such as uploading files to the cloud. There are several file management settings that are bundled into the app, including the possibility of deleting specific items to free up space on the phone.

For the moment, this app is not available for download, but Microsoft is expected to release it publicly once it makes an announcement regarding Windows 10 Mobile's availability.

In the meantime, the new operating system has already started rolling out to select devices across the world, but an announcement from Microsoft is yet to arrive, as the company is now working with insiders to test build 10586.63. This is believed to be the upgrade version for all Windows Phone devices, but before rolling it out to everyone, Microsoft must determine whether it’s stable and reliable enough for prime time.
