HoloLens version of the game being considered

Pokemon Go has become an overnight sensation after being released last week on Android and iOS devices, but without a dedicated version for the platform, Windows Phone users are once again left behind.

While thousands of users are petitioning Niantic to bring Pokemon Go on Windows phones as well, the company seems to have a different plan to give Microsoft customers a way to play the game. And it’s even more exciting than what you’d normally expect.

Niantic CEO John Hanke has told Techinsider that the company is already looking into means of improving the game, and one such way is to invest more in augmented reality. With Microsoft being one of the main companies focused on this business, a HoloLens version of Pokemon Go would really make sense, and Hanke hints that they are currently looking into it.

"That may be a fun thing to take advantage of," Hanke is quoted as saying.

Still no word on Pokemon Go for Windows Phone

The only problem is that Pokemon Go was designed to be a game available to as many players as possible, and rolling out a HoloLens version would only be aimed at a rather limited userbase. HoloLens costs approximately $3,500, so it’s easy to see why most users would rather get the game on Windows Phone and play it just like on Android and iOS.

As far as a Windows Phone version of Pokemon Go is concerned, the company has remained tight-lipped on this so far, despite the petition that’s getting thousands of new signatures every day. We’ve also contacted Niantic to ask if a Windows Phone version of Pokemon Go is at least being considered, but to no avail so far.

In the meantime, if you do want to play Pokemon Go, your only option is to get an Android or iOS phone because, for the moment, nobody can tell for sure when and if Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile devices can ever get the game.
