Microsoft is working on a so-called Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor tool for Windows Phone devices that would help handle the move to Windows 10 Mobile for users of its smartphones, and this app has made its debut in the store today.

As we reported to you yesterday, the application is specifically supposed to check a Windows Phone device for any compatibility issues, offer options should any be found, and provide several ways to free up space and remove items that take up too much storage on the device.

It pretty much has the same role as the “Get Windows 10” app that’s available on PCs running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, and Microsoft’s trying to provide users with an easy solution that would come up with all the necessary details to switch to Windows 10 Mobile.

How it works

Microsoft explains in the store description how the app works:

“If your phone is eligible for the upgrade, you may need to free up some space to get it. The app will recommend files, such as videos or photos, that you can temporarily move to OneDrive or an SD card, if you have one installed. Accept the recommendations, or change which files you want to move. You can also delete some files, if you want. If you move files to OneDrive, you need to use the app to restore files back to your phone after Windows 10 Mobile is installed.”

For the moment, the app cannot be downloaded by Windows Phone users, but Microsoft is very likely to remove the restriction very soon, when Windows 10 Mobile will make its official debut.

Build 10586.63 will be the upgrade version for Windows Phone users, and this new application will be there to help make the transition as smoothly as possible by freeing up space and helping you prevent any issue that might arise during the process.
