New information on the next Laptop generation emerges

Microsoft will announce upgrades for its Surface device lineup on October 2 during a dedicated hardware event, and naturally, the Surface Laptop will get its own share of refinements.

A report from German site WindowsArea reveals that the Surface Laptop 3 will undergo an internal hardware upgrade, so it’ll come with Intel Core processors that are part of the 10th generation chips.

Earlier this year, rumor had it that Microsoft was looking into rolling out an AMD version of the Surface Laptop as well, but according to the cited source, this is very unlikely to happen.

On the other hand, there are bigger changes happening in terms of connectivity options. Surface Laptop 3 will come with USB-C and USB-A, and at the same time, will give up on the Surface Connect port. This is unlike the Surface Pro 7, which will also get USB-C but retain the Surface Connect port.

Small changes in terms of design

As far as the design of the laptop is concerned, not much will change here, albeit it looks like Microsoft is planning a new rose gold version for all market, not just in China.

Surface Book is also expected to receive a refresh, but this time the focus will be mostly on hardware. New processors and possibly a RAM upgrade are likely on the Surface Book 3.

On the other hand, what’s not clear is whether Microsoft wants to go all-in on USB-C on the new Surface Book as well, but there’s a good chance Surface Connect would continue to be offered. Interestingly, Thunderbolt 3 could also make its way to the new Surface Book.

Further details will obviously make the rounds as we approach the launch date, but for now, what we know for sure is that USB-C would become a more common feature of the Surface family, at least on some models.
