Microsoft has recently released Windows 10 Redstone 5 build 17713 to insiders in the Slow ring after the company previously rolled out the same build to users enrolled in the Fast ring earlier this month.

Slow ring users typically get new builds when these releases are stable enough, and the majority of issues are fixed. Very often Slow ring builds also come with new ISOs allowing for a clean-install, but at this point no specifics are available on whether system images would be published as well.

Windows 10 build 17713 comes with a plethora of improvements, and while you can read all of them on the page linked above, it’s worth knowing that it brings auto-play controls in Microsoft Edge for each website. This means users are now allowed to control autoplay permissions for each page, a feature that certainly comes in handy given the improvements that all the other browsers are getting these days.

Also, with this build Notepad is getting an overhaul as well. It supports text zooming, just like a more advanced text processor, and introduces line numbers with word-wrap.

Remote Desktop is also getting support for biometrics, and Microsoft has refined the experience with inking, with embedded handwriting becoming the default experience for text entry with a pen in modern applications.

Windows 10 Redstone 5 is projected to be finalized in the fall, and September is the most likely target, while the public rollout should begin in October.

In the meantime, Microsoft has already started work on Redstone 6, the next major update that the company prepares for Windows 10. Insiders in the Skip Ahead ring have already received the first build, with work in this regard to be accelerated once Redstone 5 ships. Windows 10 Redstone 6 is projected to go live for all systems in the spring of 2019.
