Microsoft has released Windows 10 build 17755 for Fast ring insiders ahead of the public launch of the October 2018 Update next month.

As a preview of the Redstone 5 update, this fresh build doesn’t bring too many changes, with the focus now being entirely on refining performance ahead of the big unveiling in October.

However, this build introduces text messaging for the Your Phone app, an update that we announced earlier this week as part of the Windows Insider program.

Starting with this build, insiders using the Your Phone app synced with an Android phone can send text messages without even touching their mobile devices.

“Your Phone app now gives you instant access to your most recent photos and texts from your Android phone. Snap a pic on your Android, see it on your PC. It’s just easier. Text your friends, group message, and type with a keyboard—Your Phone app allows you to view, send, and receive the SMS from your Android, on your computer,” Microsoft announces.

Getting closer to RTM

This feature is exclusive to Android, and iPhone could get it at a later time, though this depends on how Microsoft manages to cope with Apple’s walled garden.

There are several other general improvements and refinements, and you can check them out in the box after the jump.

This build also comes with two known issues, which are both expected to be fixed before Microsoft completes work on this new update.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update is projected to be finalized in mid-September, while the public rollout could begin in early October. Insiders will be the first to get the RTM build, and it’s being estimated that this could happen around September 25.

The timeline depends on these last few weeks of testing, as Microsoft is now working around the work to get Windows 10 Redstone 5 ready for prime time.
