Your Phone app updated with new functionality

Microsoft has released an update for the Your Phone app on Windows 10 that allows Android users to send text messages without even touching their mobile devices.

Your Phone is a new application that brings Windows 10 and smartphones in sync, providing functionality like easy access to photos stored on handhelds.

While the app itself is work in progress and new options are being added as they are developed, Your Phone evolves at a rather slow pace, though each improvement is quite notable.

Today, for instance, Windows insiders running Your Phone received access to a new feature that makes it possible to send SMS messages from a Windows 10 PC.

As Neowin highlights, this feature only exists on Android for the time being, though there’s a chance that it may also land on iOS at some point in the future.

Apple’s walled garden

However, it’s pretty clear that Microsoft still has a hard time dealing with all the restrictions that can be found on iPhones. Apple’s walled garden raises particular challenges to Microsoft, just like it does to all the other software developers, so most of the features available in Your Phone could need more time to arrive on iOS.

For the time being, the new SMS messaging feature is exclusive to Android, and if you’re part of the Insider program, you should be able to try it out right away after installing the most recent version. If the feature isn’t there just yet, just wait a few more hours, as it’s mostly rolling out to users in stages.

Your Phone will probably continue to improve in the coming months, but if you’re on an iPhone, you may have to wait even more.

The app will become available to users on production builds of Windows 10 this fall with the release of the October 2018 Update, also known as Redstone 5.
