14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released new firmware updates for its two most recent Surface Pro models, but this time the changelog doesn’t bring as many improvements as it did in the past.
The new firmware updates, which are dated August 29 on the Surface update history page, are aimed at Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and Surface Pro 6, and these devices must be running at least Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) to receive them.
According to the official release notes, the firmware update increases the version to 5.2.139.0, and it is specifically supposed to improve system stability.
No other specifics have been provided on this update, but users are obviously recommended to update their devices as soon as possible.
Microsoft is yet to confirm if this firmware update resolves the battery degradation issue that many complained about last month.
Surface Pro 7 coming next month
In the meantime, Microsoft is also hard at work on giving the final touches to the Surface Pro 7 launch party. The company will unveil the next-generation Surface Pro at an event on October 2, and there’s a good chance the launch will witness the debut of other Surface model upgrades, including for the Surface Book and Surface Laptop.
As far as the Surface Pro 7 is concerned, the upgrades will mostly happen under the hood and on the keyboard, while the design of the device will remain mostly the same.
The 2-in-1 will be upgraded to the latest-generation Intel processors, and the amount of RAM and storage could be increased as well. As for the keyboard, rumor has it that Microsoft will make it thinner and lighter, with the touchpad to also feature several refinements.
Of course, these are all rumors for the time being, so we’ll have to wait until early October to know for sure what’s to come on the Surface Pro front.
