In addition to the Windows 10 cumulative updates released this Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has also published monthly rollups for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack are getting KB4462923 and the security-only update KB4462915. Both updates come with the same changelog, though there’s a chance that further unnamed refinements are part of KB4462923.

According to the official release notes, these patches include “security updates to Windows Media Player, Windows Graphics, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Kernel, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.”

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 are being provided with KB4462926 and security-only update KB4462941, once again both coming with the same changelog, that’s pretty similar to the one mentioned above:

“Security updates to Windows Media Player, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Datacenter Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Kernel, and Microsoft JET Database Engine.”

Just one known issue

Only the Windows 7 monthly rollup comes with a known issue, as Microsoft explains that in some cases, the network interface controller may stop working. In other words, you could lose network connectivity, and the software giant claims the culprit is an issue related to a missing file called oem.inf.

While a fix is currently in the works and may land with the next rollup, users can manually scan for hardware changes in Device Manager in order to restore network functionality.

There are no reports of failed installs, though monthly rollups for Windows 7 and 8.1 have rarely been affected by such issues. In most of the cases, impacted updates have been the ones launched specifically for Windows 10.

You can download the new updates from Windows Update right now, and you can also head over to the Microsoft Update Catalog if you want to get them manually for further deployment on systems without an Internet connection.
