Microsoft is experimenting a lot with the preview builds of Windows 10 and as we've reported to you yesterday, the company is now testing a Phone app in the operating system that's already available in build 10558.

This particular build is not yet available for insiders, so one can get it through the unofficial channels if they know where to look, but expect the application to be released to users sometime in the near future.

In the meantime, limited information is available on the actual purpose of the Phone app, but fortunately, the company itself posted more details in the store listing.

The store listing

The app description states:

“Calling in Windows 10 makes it easy to use your favorite services to keep in touch with the people in your life. Skype and voice calls appear together in your call history, giving you one-click access to your favorite people and your favorite ways of communicating with them. With the touch of a button, turn your voice call into a video call and wave hello! It's never been faster to keep in touch.”

This is an indication that the Phone app will be deeply connected to the Skype app, which will also power the new messaging service that Microsoft plans to integrate in Windows 10 in the coming months.

But it turns out that Microsoft's also preparing call recording features for the Phone app, and in the same description published in the store, the company offers an official hint in this direction.

“Record your phone calls – cellular, voice over LTE, or Wi-Fi – for future use and playback (requires consent from all parties on the line).”

Microsoft hasn't yet provided any timing details for this new app, but given the fact that a big OS update is expected in the coming months, users could get Phone too. According to pundits, this update might arrive either later this month or in early November.
