Microsoft introduces a so-called Phone app in build 10558

Microsoft is hard at work experimenting with new apps once again and Windows 10 build 10558 is living proof that very soon, users enrolled in the Windows Insider program might get a new program to play with.

Simply called Phone, the new app is pre-installed in build 10558 and seems to be the first step towards a deeper implementation of what could be telephony features in the operating system.

For the moment, not much works in this app (although it launches fine and lets you browse through a number of menus), but Phone could be a way to link phone calls to Skype, which in its turn might be deeper implemented in Windows 10 thanks to a brand-new messaging app.

The very same messaging app plus a so-called Skype Video program are also available in this build, but once again, their functionality is rather limited and this is a sign that Microsoft is still working on them.

Insiders to get all features soon

Since the company's still working on these features, it's pretty clear that it needs as much feedback as possible and it will try to make the most of the Insider program with a new build including all of them that could be shipped to testers sometime this or next week.

Build 10558 is not available for members of the Windows Insider program, so although the software giant most likely keeps an eye on social media all the time, it's rather difficult to filter out feedback and get only the suggestions that matter, so expect these features to also be included in the next public release which should help Microsoft get in touch with users in a much more organized way.

It's not yet clear if 10558 is the next version in queue for insiders, but whichever build will go live, it will clearly come with the majority of improvements available here.
