14 DAY TRIAL // In addition to a black Surface Laptop 2, Microsoft may also prepare to unveil a new-generation Surface Dial at the upcoming Surface event due on October 2.
The Redmond-based software giant took the wraps off the first Surface Dial together with the Surface Studio, and it’s thus believed that the event next month could also witness the unveiling of new improvements for the all-in-one PC as well.
Details are scarce right now, but there are reports that the Surface Studio refresh could go beyond the typical hardware upgrade, including a redesigned hinge and touchscreen improvements.
While specifics about the new Surface Dial do not exist for now, a Bluetooth accessory developed by Microsoft has indeed received FCC certification recently, indicating that something new on this front could be coming.
However, the generic name of “Bluetooth accessory with Bluetooth function” could mean anything, so it remains to be seen if Microsoft is indeed working on a new Surface Dial or not.
October Surface event
By the looks of things, Microsoft’s October 2 Surface event could bring quite an interesting device lineup, though for the time being, the company has remained pretty much tight-lipped on anything new on the Surface front.
One thing is for sure, though: the highly-anticipated Andromeda device won’t make it to the show, as work on this project continues with a possible release date next year. Interestingly enough, Andromeda could be scrapped completely if Microsoft’s leadership team isn’t satisfied with where it is going, so don’t get your hopes too high on this.
Andromeda is a new multi-form factor device that would transition from laptop to tablet and note-taking model, running on a dual-screen design with pen input. It was often referred to as the Surface Phone, though the most recent information has indicated that it would have nothing in common with a traditional smartphone, other than possible phone capabilities.
