14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft will take the wraps off the next-generation Surface Laptop at the company’s event on October 2, and one of the biggest changes could be the introduction of a black version.
Surface Laptop is currently available in a variety of colors, but black could only land with the release of the upcoming model, according to a report from Thurrott.
There’s a chance that a black version would make its way to the market with both the upgraded Surface Laptop and the Surface Pro models, though at this point it’s not clear if both would make it to the October 2 event or the latter may only see daylight next year.
Microsoft previously used black on the original Surface RT model launched in October 2012, and the company made the switch to silver with the release of the next generation.
Aside from the black version, other hardware upgrades are expected as well, but specifics aren’t available right now.
Hardware upgrades expected
Most likely, improvements in the CPU, memory, and storage departments would be made, and Microsoft could also launch further refinements in terms of display and input. Furthermore, the Surface Laptop may embrace USB-C as the default port, a move that has long been rumored to be on the table at Microsoft.
Surface Laptop is Microsoft’s more conventional laptop that comes with a traditional form factor, and not with a 2-in-1 approach. However, it still features a touchscreen for touch input, as well as supposed for the S Pen and the Surface Dial.
It comes with Windows 10 in S Mode, as it’s a device aimed at the education market as well, but can be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro at no extra cost.
