Microsoft has just rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.29 for devices enrolled in the Windows Insider program, but for the moment, owners of Lumia 950 and 950 XL cannot get these early releases.

Both the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL shipped with Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.0 and are not yet supported by the Windows Insider program, but in an announcement today, Microsoft revealed that everything would change next week.

Support for Lumia 950 and 950 XL will be added in Windows 10 Mobile preview builds early next week, along with an update for the Windows Device Recovery Tool to help you restore your phone should something bad happen. In addition to these two models, support for Lumia 550 and LG Lancet will also be added, Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program said.

Only for experienced users

So starting early next week, which most likely means Tuesday, owners of Lumia 950 and 950 XL flagships should start getting Windows 10 Mobile preview builds, but the general recommendations are still valid: do not install these versions unless you are an experienced user, because they are generally buggy and some things might not work as expected.

Aul explained that several updates are expected in the coming weeks, as it continues collecting feedback and working to address any found problems.

“As our partners and Microsoft ship new Windows 10 mobile devices and existing devices are upgraded to Windows 10, all of our users will start to see more updates coming through Windows Update. These will be addressing feedback we receive from our Windows Insiders and new Windows 10 users,” he said in a statement.

At the same time, other updates for Lumia 950 and 950 XL that are supposed to fix found bugs in the stable build of the OS are also expected to arrive in the coming weeks and months, but most likely, these improvements will only launch after being thoroughly tested by insiders.
