All phones will be shipped by December 6

Microsoft’s new Lumia 950 and 950 XL are going on sale across the world these days, but it turns out that shipments in the United Kingdom might be held back for a few more days because of what appears to be a software issue.

A new report pointing to a message received by customers of British retailer Argos reveals that the Lumia 950 and 950 XL will be delayed for a few days because Microsoft has found a software issue that needs to be fixed before the phones actually arrive at users’ doors.

Specifics on these software issues aren’t yet available, but it’ll be interesting to see how Microsoft plans to fix them, given the fact that the devices are shipped by retailers, which won’t update the phones before sending them to customers.

New update in the pipeline

Most likely, Microsoft wants to hold back the shipments as it completes work on a new Windows 10 Mobile build that would probably include the said fix, so when customers in the United Kingdom power on their phones for the first time, the update should be there waiting to be installed.

“Hello, this is an important message from Argos. Microsoft have regrettably advised that, following some unexpected software issues, the release of the Microsoft Lumia will be slightly delayed. You will now receive you order […] no later than 06/12 and you will be notified once your order has been despatched. Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience,” the message received by Argos customers reads.

Microsoft hasn’t yet issued a statement on what exactly is happening with the Lumia 950 and 950 XL units sold in the United Kingdom and whether devices available in other markets could be impacted as well, but expect the company to detail this later today or in the next few days.

Update: Microsoft has confirmed the Lumia 950 and 950 XL issue, but said that deliveries still started on December 3 as planned.
