14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released Windows 10 Mobile build 14356 to insiders earlier today with several Cortana improvements, but also with a huge list of bug fixes that prepare the operating system for the big Anniversary Update release scheduled for July.
But it turns out that Microsoft is also making some changes to the operating system that aren’t necessarily supposed to improve performance, but to give it a more modern touch that would better fit a mobile operating system.
One such tweak concerns the wallpaper, which, as MSPU spotted, has been changed in this new build with a photo that makes more sense on a phone screen. Previously, Microsoft had been using the Windows 10 hero wallpaper, also configured as default on Windows 10 PCs, as the background of Windows 10 Mobile devices too, but with this build, the company is at least experimenting with a new photo.

Interestingly, today’s wallpaper is a crop from the original Windows 10 hero wallpaper, and since it uses a simplified approach with the same blue effects, the new Start better brings the live tiles in the spotlight.
And as the source notes, the wallpaper is included in the “Sample Images” folder, so anyone can find it in there should they want to use it.
Microsoft hasn’t publicly announced this change, but most likely, the company is just experimenting for the time being, so depending on the feedback it receives, the same photo could be used as the default wallpaper in Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update too.
The community is very likely to enjoy the new wallpaper, as everyone on Windows phones has been quite receptive to visual improvements and changes that refine the look of the operating system. Certainly, Windows 10 Mobile is improving with the Anniversary Update, and the Insider program is playing a key role in making the operating system better, so we’ll see what fans think about this new wallpaper.
