Some devices can't update to the latest version of the OS

We reported earlier today that Microsoft has kicked off the rollout of Windows 10 Mobile 10586.29 to Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL regardless whether or not they were enrolled in the Windows Insider program.

The update is reportedly available to all Lumia 950/950 XL devices, including those that are sold through various carriers (AT&T version confirmed).

However, it appears that some Lumia 950 owners report they have troubles upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.29.

Those users claim they didn't get the Windows Insider build released last week, nor the current non-Insider version that is now being pushed by Microsoft.

The good news is Microsoft is already aware of this issue and is working on a fix, WindowsCentral reports. The Redmond-based company even offered a statement regarding this issue and how it plans to address it.

Microsoft's engineers are trying to identify the problem

According to Microsoft, this is definitely an issue they are investigating, though they are not yet sure what's causing the problem. The problem is that an undetermined number of Insiders are not showing any updates available.

The Redmond-based company has also confirmed that all research from its side shows the update pipeline to be in good order, so there should not be any issue with Lumia 950 device not getting Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.29.

Even though there's an workaround that will allow Lumia 950 owners to update to Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.29, Microsoft does not want to recommend it to everyone because it involves hard-resetting the phone.

“Doing a hard reset does fix the issue, but we're not asking all users to go that route yet while we investigate. Working to see if there's an alternate fix available,” Microsoft explains.

So, while it may take some time for Microsoft to pinpoint the problem, Lumia 950 owners should rest assured that the company is doing everything to address this issue.
