Previous reports claimed the device will pack an Exynos chip

We reported to you last month that Meizu MX6 could be one of the many high-end smartphones to be powered by Samsung's unannounced Exynos 8870 octa-core chipset.

Samsung Exynos 8870 is reportedly a slightly downgraded version of the high-performance Exynos 8890 chipset that will be included in the upcoming Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone.

However, a new report coming from AnTuTu (via GadgetzArena) claims Meizu MX6 will be the first smartphone to come equipped with MediaTek's powerful Helio X20 deca-core processor.

MediaTek Helio X20 hasn't been released commercially, but the Taiwanese company confirmed its high-end chipset will make its debut this year.

The chipset has been established to accommodate a Mali-T880 MP4 graphics processing unit, as shown in a Geekbench benchmark test last year.

For those unfamiliar with MediaTek's Helio X20 chipset, here is a quick recap of what it has to offer. First of all, the chipset packs two Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.5GHz, four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2GHz, and four Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.4GHz.

The chipset's Tri-Cluster build should provide exceptional performance in multi-core benchmarks, but also in all other apps and games that requires activation of multiple cores.

Full HD display and 3GB RAM

If Helio X20 is included in the upcoming Meizu MX6, the smartphone could very well compete with other Chinese flagships like the Xiaomi Mi5, which will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 CPU.

Meizu MX6 is said to pack 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage inside. The smartphone will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Flyme UI on top.

Although it's unclear what size the MX6's display will feature, it's almost sure that it will support full HD (1080p) resolution instead of Quad HD.

The MX6 is expected to arrive later this year, but an exact release timeframe hasn't been confirmed yet, so stay tuned for more on this one.
