Samsung’s discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7 has caused some changes in the retail market, as many smartphone markers are focusing on making their products visible to the customers that Samsung has potentially lost.

A report by market research firm Wave7 Research (via Fierce Wireless) shows that Samsung has experienced an increase in near-term damage to its market share over the last few weeks, after battery problems were reported in both initial and replacement models of the Note 7. The firm says that the negative effects have gone from "minimal to significant."

The survey shows that up to 30% of users who returned the Note 7 at retail stores have opted to switch to the iPhone. However, most of the users actually decide to get another Samsung phone upon returning the Note 7.

Some Galaxy Note 7 owners opt for the iPhone 7 Plus

It seems that many have opted for the Galaxy S7 edge, while a portion of them went with the iPhone 7 Plus, although supplies are rather low for this Apple smartphone. This means that other major smartphone makers could potentially capitalize on this opportunity.

One of the most exciting smartphones to arrive to the market soon is Google’s Pixel, and the company has already spent millions on advertising the two variants of this device in order to attract customers. And it appears that its efforts have paid off, as many seem to be very interested in them, since the Pixel and Pixel XL are already out of stock in the Google Store.

Another smartphone that could potentially attract some Note 7 owners is the LG V20. Pre-orders for the smartphone have already gone live at major US carriers and retailers, with the official release scheduled for next week.

It is said that demand for the new iPhone models at launch is higher than it was last year, when the company released the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.

Samsung will surely lose billions from the Galaxy Note 7 discontinuation, and in order to recover some losses, the company has increased production of its flagship, the Galaxy S7 edge. And it might also release a Blue Coral version of the phone, the same color variant that generated massive sales for the Note 7.
