14 DAY TRIAL // Imagine being 17 and going on a tour of college campuses to see which would suit you better when the time comes to apply. First Daughter Malia Obama did just that last weekend and even attended a dorm party - and the Internet completely lost it.
A photo of Malia standing by a beer pong table has emerged online, after it was posted on Snapchat, from where it leaked. You can see it attached to this article, but while it doesn’t show her doing any actual drinking, it got many hot under the collar on account of the fact that she’s not acting “appropriately.”
Malia is 17, acts her age
The Daily Caller has obtained the photo in question, which is offered as “proof” that Malia may occasionally indulge in a cup of beer or a shot of something stronger, even though she is not of age.
However, the photo doesn’t “prove” anything except for the fact that, indeed, Malia attended a dorm party at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and that she happened to stand by a beer pong table while there.
The same media outlet has accounts from eyewitnesses that say that she also played the game and even did shots with the other guests at the party. Said eyewitnesses don’t have any photos to back up their claims, and as it happens, they have already deleted the tweets in which they made the claims. The Daily Caller has screenshots at the link.
For some, the photo and the reports were enough to condemn Malia’s behavior as inexcusable and unworthy of a First Daughter. Several calls for comment to the White House have been made, but not one of them got a reply.
Teenagers will be teenagers
Amid the uproar are the voices of those pointing out that Malia Obama, First Daughter or not, is after all, a 17-year-old girl. Teenagers will be teenagers, as all of us recall, and playing beer pong or doing a shot would be the least bad thing she could have done.
As we speak, Twitter is packed with comments from those saying that what Malia did is neither scandalous nor newsworthy, because she’s just doing what the vast majority of boys and girls her age is doing: having some fun, even if it’s not entirely legal yet and actually having a life.
Previously, Malia made headlines this year after interning on the set of 2 highly publicized TV series, Lena Dunham’s “Girls” and Halle Berry’s now-canceled “Extant.”
