If you loved the relatively new CBS drama with Halley Berry, “Extant,” sad news: the network has decided to cancel it after just 2 seasons, most likely because of underwhelming ratings. The silver lining is that Halle is not leaving the network just yet, The Hollywood Reporter informs.

Season 2 was a reboot of sorts, replacing the showrunners and regular castmembers Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim (Jeffrey Dean Morgan became male lead), but it still failed to make a splash in the ratings.

Consequently, CBS has decided to axe it, a decision made much easier by the way season 2 concluded. The official statement from the network is available below.

The good news is that, while “Extant” is over, Halle will be sticking around, because her condition upon agreeing to do this series was that she get a 2-year overall deal with CBSTVS.

Next up, she will be producing and writing a new drama for CBS, “Legalese.” No word yet on whether she will also star in it, but from the synopsis, it sure sounds like it: “Legalese” is about a biracial female attorney from Chicago who teams up on a case with a white male attorney from New Orleans, “working in a justice system that will ultimately expose the biases that society harbors.”

In a separate statement, Halle expresses her satisfaction with “Extant” and the way it ended, and her joy at working on new projects for the network. “Legalese” doesn’t have an estimated air date just yet.
