When 2K announced it will release remasters for all three Mafia games, fans were hyped at the possibility of replaying these classics on modern platforms. Unfortunately, at least one of the games released until now, Mafia 2 is far from what we consider a “remaster.” You can go ahead and read our full Mafia 2: Definitive Edition review, but we have to warn you that things aren't pretty (literally).

However, we have high hopes for the original Mafia since it's the oldest game in the trilogy and the visual improvements should be the most obvious. Unfortunately, we've just learned that we have to wait a while longer because the folks at Hangar 13 need more time to finish development.

For your information, Mafia: Definitive Edition was originally slated for an August 28 release, but the launch date has been shifted to September 25. The reason is easy to guess: the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mafia: Definitive Edition will now release worldwide on September 25. Though we’d originally planned to release the game one month earlier on August 28, finalizing everything in time for that launch date has become increasingly challenging due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, and the last thing we want to do is compromise the quality of the experience.”

The good news is we'll probably have a better game, so that's a plus. To make the wait more bearable, 2K announced they will give us an extended look at Mafia: Definitive Edition's gameplay on July 22, so that's just two weeks from now.

Delaying games due to various reasons is no longer an issue for players since we want to get the best product possible without that taking a toll on developers. The crunching culture will not go away, but if we somehow can reduce that to a minimum and still get great results, that would be rad.
