LG fans already know that their favorite company launches a new flagship smartphone each spring. Unlike Samsung, Sony Mobile and other major handset makers, LG prefers to unveil its high-end smartphones during dedicated events.

However, rumor has it that LG is now ready to take on Samsung and plans to launch its flagship smartphone around the same timeframe.

The LG G4 was officially introduced last year in April and made it to market the same month. This year, the South Korean company plans to launch its new flagship smartphone at MWC 2016 trade fair, which is scheduled to kick off in late February.

If LG doesn't announce the G5 at MWC 2016, there's a high chance that it will be unveiled a few weeks later during a dedicated event.

LG wants to bring the G5 on the market at the same time that Samsung launches its Galaxy S7, which suggests the handset maker really thinks that it can compete with the South Korean giant.

Dual camera setup, USB Type-C port

Today, the folks over at Droid-Life received a few pictures taken from an LG prototype smartphone that hasn't been announced yet.

The smartphone is housed in a black casing that hides its final design, which is another evidence that this is a high-end device that LG wants to protect from prying eyes.

The first thing one can notice looking at the picture that shows the back side of the smartphone is the dual camera setup, which comes in line with the LG G5 mock-ups recently published by CNET.

Another picture clearly shows that the smartphone will pack a USB Type-C port, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion.

LG G5 will certainly pack a fingerprint sensor, which can be seen right below the camera in one of the pictures leaked online.

Sadly, even though we get a peek at every other component and their positioning, we still don't know what the LG G5 will look like.
