14 DAY TRIAL // If you've been anxious to learn new details about LG's upcoming flagship smartphone, the G5, then you're in luck since the South Korean company has just unveiled new information that makes the waiting even more torturing.
It looks like LG has just posted a GIF to its Facebook page that confirms G5's Always-On display, a feature that's currently implemented into Google's newest Nexus smartphones and, to some degree, on Motorola smartphones.
The Always-On display will allow users to see incoming notifications, including text messages, missed calls and emails, without having to turn the display on.
According to LG's teaser, the G5 will “never go asleep while others do.” Could that be a reference to Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones?
It's almost certain that LG is taking another jab at Samsung after it trolled the world's largest mobile vendor on Twitter on the removable battery feature.
Samsung has already tried to patent the concept
Unfortunately for LG, both Samsung flagship smartphones might come with Always-On displays as well.
In fact, Samsung has tried to trademark the “Always-On Display” concept at USPTO, so it would make sense for the handset maker to use it in its next products.
Although this is not a confirmation that Always-On display will be part of Galaxy S7's specs sheet, it's an indication that Samsung plans to introduce this feature in its smartphones.
The Always-On feature requires an AMOLED display since this type of screen only needs power to the pixels that are lit at any given time.
This means that it will be able to show information like calendar events, notifications or weather details continuously, while using just 1 percent of the battery per hour (unconfirmed).
While we know for sure that LG G5 will come with Always-On display, it remains to be seen whether or not Samsung will implement this feature into Galaxy S7.
