Lenovo’s Tech World event was surely a place for showing off the company’s latest innovations, culminating with the Lenovo Phab2 Pro, the world’s first Project Tango smartphone. But Lenovo also showcased two rather interesting devices with a bendable display, which appears to be the next big thing in the mobile industry.

Lenovo's CTO Peter Hortensius showcased CPlus, a new smartphone with a bendable display that users can place on their wrist. The device bends backward and articulates on the wrist in a matter of seconds.

The display of the Folio phablet/tablet folds in half, depending on the screen size that the user needs. Users can take calls with the tablet folded and then instantly unfold the display to browse online or use apps.

The CPlus smartphone will come with a 4.26-inch display

The bendable smartphone is officially named CPlus, and Lenovo announced that the device would come in two sizes, large and small, in order to be suitable for all wrist sizes. The handset will run Android OS, which was expected, and will come in 12 different colors.

The company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Yuanqing Yang, said during the presentation that "Over the past two years Lenovo has been transforming, making major acquisitions in mobile and infrastructure to expand beyond our core PC business.” Therefore, the company started working on bendable displays for smartphones and tablets.

Lenovo officials only showcased prototypes of the two devices, and a commercial launch might not happen too soon.

However, one smartphone giant is reportedly considering launching two flexible smartphone models next year. Samsung’s Project Valley focuses on developing smartphones with flexible displays, which are expected to be unveiled in February, during Mobile World Congress 2017.
