The Project Tango smartphone is one of the most anticipated handsets to be released this year, and during Tech World, Lenovo unveiled the world’s first device in this lineup, while also revealing specs, pricing, and the date when it should hit the market.

Tech World was hosted in San Francisco, and it offered Lenovo the perfect opportunity to unveil the world’s first Project Tango smartphone, the Phab2 Pro. Project Tango is a device platform that allows the phone to understand its location and build a three-dimensional map of indoor spaces.

To exemplify the things that people could do with the Phab2 Pro, developers made a demonstration using the Tango-enabled app, which will be available in the Play store. During the demo, the developer measured the space in a room and added furniture in augmented reality. Lenovo and Google worked with scientists and other companies to create apps built around the device’s capabilities.

The smartphone incorporates a collection of sensors that map the surroundings in order to create augmented reality. The handset uses a combination of motion tracking, depth perception, and area learning to display everything in 3D and capture over 250,000 of measurements per second.

Phab2 Pro comes with really powerful specs

However, the Phab2 Pro is actually a really powerful device, even without the Project Tango technology. The smartphone comes with a very large screen, 6.4-inch Quad HD resolution, 4,050mAh battery, and 2.4 Turbo Charging feature. It has Dolby Atmos capabilities with 5.1 Audio Capture. The Snapdragon 652 processor was optimized for Tango apps and comes with Qualcomm’s Fluence Pro feature for enhanced noise isolation.

The Phab2 Pro comes with an eight-core 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 64GB of internal storage, and 4GB of RAM. The rear camera is very impressive, 16MP TOF with fish-eye lens and IR beamer, and the phone sports an 8MP camera on the front and fingerprint scanner.

Lenovo also showcased the Phab2 and the Phab2 Plus. While the former will be sold for $199 and come with a 6.4-inch 720p display and 13MP rear camera, the latter will have the same screen size and a dual-camera on the back, but it will be sold for a higher price of $299.

Lenovo Phab2 Pro runs Android Marshmallow 6.0 out of the box, and it will sell for $499 unlocked. The developers mentioned that the smartphone would start shipping in August and hit US BestBuy stores and other retailers in September.
