Season 5 of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” ended with perhaps the biggest cliffhanger so far in the series, when the final shot of the episode “Mother’s Mercy” showed Jon Snow apparently lying dead on the snow, after being stabbed by his fellow, traitorous brothers of The Watch.

Since then, there’s been a lot of talk online whether Snow is really gone. Readers of George R.R. Martin’s books are just as confused on the topic, since with this season, the series has finally caught up with the novels.

Is Jon Snow dead or what?

Since he’s emerged as one of the leading characters in the saga, fans choose to believe that he can’t possibly be dead, not now when his story finally seemed to be going in the right direction.

The most popular theory online is that either he will come back as a warg through his werewolf Ghost or that Melisandre will bring him back from the dead with help from the Lord of Light. Of course, there are also those who believe the “death scene” is nothing short of a ruse meant to build up hype.

According to actor Kit Harington, the producers and the other cast members, Jon Snow is as dead as he can be. Despite the fact that the handsome actor has been spotted around on the set in Belfast (where all scenes for The Wall are shot), everyone involved in the production wants fans to believe that he’s not coming back as the perpetually sad-faced Jon Snow, Eddard Stark’s bastard son.

However, at the same time, they’re careful not to sound too convincing either.

Kit Harrington plays games with fans’ hearts

Kit is perhaps the one who’s doing the most teasing on the topic. On one hand, he insists that his character on the series has been killed off, just like we’ve seen on the season 5 finale.

On the other, he drops hints in interviews that his partnership with HBO is not over yet, knowing very well that his fans can put 2 and 2 together and understand that he wouldn’t still have a contract if he wasn’t supposed to return, in one form or another.

“Nice try,” he says in a recent interview, cited by Us Weekly, on the topic of how many more seasons he still has on his contract. “I can’t talk about that. Let’s just say that Game of Thrones will remain a part of my life for a while, I’ll probably be in my thirties when it’s over. One thing’s for sure: the day I’m no longer on Thrones is the day I’ll bury myself in movie projects.”

Kit Harington is 28 right now, when shooting for the 6th season is well underway.
