The KDE Applications 17.04 stable series is nearing its end of life as the KDE Project plans to release the last scheduled maintenance update next month on July 13, 2017, so now they need to prepare for the next major series.

They recently finalized the release schedule for KDE Application 17.08, which will be the next stable series of the software suite for KDE Plasma 5 desktop environments and anyone else who wants to use the Qt-based applications included in this selection.

Development of KDE Applications 17.08 will start exactly on July 13, when KDE Applications 17.04.3 hits the streets to mark the end of life for the KDE Applications 17.04 series, with the Dependency Freeze stage. However, the Beta and RC (Release Candidate) milestones are expected July 20 and August 3 respectively.

According to the release schedule, the final, production-ready version of the KDE Applications 17.08 software suite is hitting the streets on August 17, and, as expected, will have three point releases. The first one, KDE Applications 17.08.1, being planned for September 7, 2017.

KDE Applications 17.08 reaches end of life on November 9, 2017

The second maintenance update, KDE Applications 17.08.2, should arrive on October 12, and the third one, KDE Applications 17.08.3, on November 9, marking the end of life for the series, which appears to be the last for 2017. Until then, users will be getting the KDE Plasma 5.11 desktop environment upgrade, launching October 10.

Until then, we invite KDE users to upgrade their KDE Plasma 5 desktops to the latest stable KDE Plasma 5.10.2 release, as well as the KDE Applications 17.04.2 software suite and KDE Frameworks 5.35.0. In related news, you can also try the latest KDE Neon Developer Unstable Edition ISO images, which now come with a Wayland session by default.
