14 DAY TRIAL // Kate Gosselin might no longer call TLC a permanent home, but she visits often: just last night, the network, home of the now-defunct but very successful reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8 (later renamed to just Kate Plus 8), aired the special called The BIG Four Oh!
The special focused on Kate’s 40th birthday, which she celebrated with her 8 children and her best friend in Mexico. She also took some time to subtly diss her ex-husband Jon, with whom she is no longer in good relations, as her fans must know.
Kate says single life is best, would like people to stop asking if she’s dating
As you can see in the video below, Kate had an intimate birthday dinner with her best friend for her special night - and she says she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. With her friend, Kate can be unguarded and true to herself, and not stress about putting up the façade that is expected of her.
The night was a memorable one and she will cherish the memory for the rest of her life, she says.
However, what fans and media outlets focused on instead was the subtle dig at her ex-husband Jon. Kate and Jon’s divorce has been anything but amicable, with accusations of abuse and blackmail flying from all sides, and damning allegations about the other party making their way in the press on a regular basis.
With this in mind, even though she usually refrains from bashing Jon in interviews, it’s not really surprising to hear her say that the past 5 years, since she divorced Jon, have been “the best.”
“Don’t ask me about ex situations. I don’t define myself by that,” she says. Since she’s on the topic of things she’d like would stop happening, she adds: “I want people to stop asking me if I’m dating. I would like that to end.”

She’s referring in particular to a rumor linking her to millionaire Jeff Prescott, whom she’s been seeing (allegedly) since last October. The press even said that they were engaged at one point, but she made sure to deny that.
She also denied they were dating, even though various reports, backed up by photographic evidence, suggested otherwise.
While she’s eager to maintain this image of her as a single woman and mother of 8, doing it all on her own, Kate has also been very open in the past about not losing hope of finding a man to call the love of her life, with whom to grow old.
The problem is, she said, he would have to be a Superman because only he could handle the kind of baggage she brings into a relationship. That would be her 8 kids with Jon Gosselin and the drama that comes with living life in the public eye.
