14 DAY TRIAL // Johnny Depp is getting rave reviews for his performance as Boston mobster White Bulger in the upcoming film “Black Mass,” but he seems to be losing points with some media outlets, Page Six in particular.
After criticizing him for his “bloated” appearance at the Venice Film Festival and the TIFF 2015, and proclaiming that he had definitely lost his model looks now that he’d turned 52, the e-zine goes after Depp for his most recent appearance on NBC’s The Today Show, together with co-star Joel Edgerton.
You can see in full in the video below. According to Page Six, throughout it, Depp “shifts in and out of accents (including an Australian twang)” and “drones through” the interview. The e-zine is playing into older rumors of an alcohol problem with Depp and suggests that this video might confirm them, at least partially.
If you ask me, Page Six has a major hate-on for Depp, for whatever reason. He has always had this way of half-mumbling when he speaks, so not much has changed. As for the different accents, I didn’t catch them. So see if you can.
Kudos to Depp for being humble and funny about the Oscar buzz the movie is getting, particularly his performance. “Oscar who?,” indeed.
