Electronic Arts wants to be a part of this genre

Ubisoft had great success with the Assassin's Creed franchise, and that's something that Electronic Arts is covering. Now it looks like the former Ubisoft director for the first Assassin's Creed, Jade Raymond, is at the helm of a new game that will be a rival in scope.

Electronic Arts was talking a few weeks ago, through the voice of the famous Patrick Soderlund, that the company was looking with great interest at what other people were doing, like 2K with GTA V or Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed. He noted that EA didn't have a presence in this genre, and that really needed to change.

There are two possibilities. One is that, during the time since his statement, people have gotten to work on a new IP, or they were already working on something when he spoke out. Since Jade Raymond has been at Electronic Arts for quite some time, without anything under her name, it's likely that something is already in production for quite some time.

Assassin's Creed-like game in the works at Electronic Arts

It's interesting to see that the name of Ubisoft's franchise, Assassin's Creed, popped up twice, which means that they are working on something at least similar in mechanics.

Blake Jorgensen, EA CFO, spoke at the UBS Global Technology Conference that took place in San Francisco, and he mentioned that Jade Raymond was doing something new.

"We've never really operated in the largest genre of gaming, and that's the action genre. That's the Assassin's Creed-style games; more open-world, more single-play versus multiplayer. It's not been an area that we've operated in. We recently hired Jade Raymond, who was behind the Assassin's Creed franchise for Ubisoft and she will be building an action genre for us through a studio we're building out in Montreal right now," said Jorgensen according to report on Gamespot.com.

It's easy to guess that we'll have to wait a little bit longer for more information about this game, and at this point, it's even unlikely that they have a name for it.
