14 DAY TRIAL // iStat Pro, the Mac OS X Dashboard widget that monitors everything from CPU workload to fan speed, has been updated by iSlayer to include Magic Mouse battery monitoring. Whether related in any way to recent reports discussing the issues with Magic Mouse power management, the update is more than welcome.
“iStat Pro is a highly configurable widget that lets you monitor every aspect of your Mac, including CPU, memory, disks, network, battery, temperatures, fans, load & uptime and processes. iStat Pro can do it all,” iSlayer explains.
iSlayer also develops iStat Menus, one of the most popular monitoring tools for Mac OS X. Provided free of charge, it is a useful application that helps you monitor your system right from the menubar, offering eight menu extras that let you monitor every aspect of your system. iStat Pro, also offered for free, allows for a quick-glance monitoring of your entire system, yet provides much less control. It’s just there to look at, and now includes a new box, showing the battery level for your Magic Mouse. According to iSlayer, version 4.92 also improves support for networking on recent Mac models.
Soon after Apple introduced its Multi-Touch-capable Magic Mouse, early adopters noticed a particularly high power consumption, with some customers having to replace the batteries on a weekly basis. It was later revealed that Magic Mice working alongside Apple Wireless Keyboards were particularly prone to draining batteries rapidly. However, tests carried out by Softpedia have revealed that the power management behind Magic Mouse may be at fault. Whether or not accurate, Apple is expected to issue a firmware update addressing this seemingly widespread issue.
