One device remains locked out of PwnageTool 3.1.3

Although the iPhone Dev Team has been hard at work jailbreaking the latest iPhone OS version (3.1 for iPhone / 3.1.1 for iPod touch), one device model remains immune to the infamous team’s hacking tools – the third-generation iPod touch. Since it comes preinstalled with OS 3.1.1 and (obviously) hasn’t been pwned before, PwnageTool isn’t able to do the magic just yet.

Posted two days ago, an update on the iPhone Dev Team’s blog revealed that the PwnageTool – the Mac OS X jailbreak & unlock solution – had been updated to version 3.1.3 adding support for an additional two Apple device models: the iPhone 3GS and the second-generation iPod touch. Currently, all device models can be jailbroken, except for one – the third-generation iPod touch (or iPod3,1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw) according to the Dev Team.

However, there are a few aspects to be taken into consideration by 3GS and 2G touch users as well. It appears that, although the iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, the phone needs to have been previously pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1. Basically, the PwnageTool does not support iPhone 3GS out of the box, according to the iPhone Dev Team. “If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment,” the hackers sadly inform.

The second point of interest, this time targeting iPod touch 2G owners, is that PwnageTool 3.1.3 supports this device model as well. However, the same circumstances apply – it works only if the iPod touch 2G was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1. As for the third-generation iTouch, “At this time PwnageTool does not support this device,” the Dev Team says.
