When it comes to the leading mobile phones on the market today, one can easily make a short list that includes the newly launched Nexus One by HTC, the Motorola DROID, HTC HD2, or LG eXpo and the likes, mainly choosing them based on the raw power and functionality they are able to deliver to users. However, according to the latest reports around the Internet, there are great chances that the next-generation iPhone will outpace all these devices in many respects.

As many of you might have already learned, the word around the web is that Apple is set to bring the iPhone 4G on the market sometime in April or May this year, packing a dual-core processor. Moreover, rumor also has it that one should expect for the next iPhone to sport an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) screen, video chat features, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, Wi-Fi capabilities, removable battery, and a more powerful graphics processor. Not to mention that other new features are to come along with the iPhone OS 4.0, which shouldn't bee too far in the future either.

Truth be told, all seems a little too good to be true, yet we'll still keep our fingers crossed for these rumors to pan out. In case they do, this means that the existing devices that boast 1GHz Snapdragon processors from Qualcomm or various other high-end features that make them more appealing that anything else on the market will be easily shadowed by what Apple will offer its users. And the odds are good for that to happen, one should agree.

Some of the latest smartphones on the market have been called “superphones” mainly due to the “super” experience they can deliver. This doesn't put Apple's iPhone 3GS in the best possible position, and the Cupertino-based company will certainly try to come up with something that will enable its iconic device to maintain its leadership. With Qualcomm set to bring its first 1.3 and 1.5 GHz chips on the market this year, the competition will become more fierce, and we're waiting for the future superphones and the next iPhone iteration to see what's coming our way. Until then, however, iPhone 4G seems to raise the bar a little more for the currently available devices.
