Huawei announced the Honor 5X mid-range Android smartphone back in November, but the handset has only been available in China until recently.

However, starting this month, customers in the United States will be able to buy the Huawei Honor 5X for just $200 via Amazon.

Although the Honor 5X ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, along with Emotion UI on top, Huawei has confirmed the smartphone will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in the coming weeks.

The announcement is meant to boost the hype around the smartphone and improve its sales in the United States since the update has only been confirmed for this version of the Honor 5X.

Here is Huawei's full statement regarding the upcoming release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Honor 5X:

“We wanted to follow-up to share a few details important to your long-term experience with the 5X. First, we wanted to clarify that the honor 5X will receive regular software updates, including Android M, EMUI4 and Android security patches.”

“In fact, the first of the OTA updates are expected to arrive January 31, with regular updates following. Our customer base demands regular updates, and honor is committed to meeting that challenge. In fact, our customers regularly provide feedback and suggestions through our robust online community.”

No timeframe for Marshmallow release is available yet

Although Huawei has confirmed that an OTA update will arrive by the end of the month, the Chinese company does not reveal a timetable for the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade.

Even so, the Honor 5X looks to be an even greater deal for Android fans searching for a relatively cheap smartphone that runs the latest version of their favorite operating system.

We expect Huawei to offer customers in the United States more details on the upcoming release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Honor 5X, so stay tuned.
