Huawei has just announced that it started a program for Honor 6X owners in the US, offering them the possibility to become beta testers for the new Android 7.0 Nougat update. Huawei is recruiting users and made the announcement on its Twitter account.

Huawei needs the help of Honor 6X owners in the US for testing the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat update on its phones. Honor 6X users who are interested in testing the beta firmware would have to share their device’s IMEI (or numbers in case of a dual-card model) with the company through an email to [email protected].

Reports have said that the Android 7.0 Nougat update with EMUI 5 would arrive in March to the Honor 6X, but the company quickly backtracked on its original statement and said the update would be available only for review units in the US in March.

Honor 6X currently ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and EMUI 4.1 on top

Honor 6X is currently sold running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and if owners wish to get the Nougat update as soon as possible, they should enroll in the beta test program.

The update should arrive to all countries soon after it starts hitting the US. Huawei also launched a contest for fans, urging them to sign up and review the phone. Those who registered received a Honor 6X unit and will have to write a review of the phone until March 3, when the winner will be announced. The winner would get to keep the review unit and Huawei will provide details about the contest on its website.

Honor 6X was announced during CES 2017, as an affordable phone with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display and Kinir 655 chipset inside. The device has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of memory. It comes with a dual-camera setup on the back and draws power from a 3,340mAh battery.
