HTC is known for working on a number of new smartphones for the HTC U-themed event to be held just a few days from now, on January 12. The company is said to announce at least three smartphones, the HTC U Ultra, HTC One X10, and the HTC U Play.

The HTC U Play, also known as the HTC Alpine, was spotted receiving Bluetooth SIG certification, according to a recent report. While the listing doesn’t specifically mention the name of the new smartphone, it does reveal that the device will support Bluetooth 4.2.

Recent rumors have revealed that the HTC U Play will feature a 5.2-inch display and not include the 3.5mm headphone jack. This has become a trend on the smartphone market, as more and more companies have decided to ditch the headphone jack and make use of the USB Type-C port, which can also output audio. Still, nothing is certain until the phone is officially released later this week.

However, judging by the available information, as little as it is, the U Play will most likely not be HTC’s new flagship, especially since the phone’s name might suggest that it’s an enhanced mid-range device focused on increased gaming performance.

HTC might release a fourth smartphone this year

HTC’s upcoming U Ultra might actually be the flagship smartphone, but little is known about the new phone. The device might also ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack and come with a 6-inch display.

The One X10 could also be announced on January 12, this device could feature a 5.5-inch display with full HD resolution and run a 1.9GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6755 processor, with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. It might also have a 16MP rear camera and 8MP in the front. There’s also talk of an HTC Vive smartphone, so 2017 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the company.
