It won't be a flagship smartphone but a mid-range device

Some of you might remember that we reported a few days ago about another flagship smartphone that might be coming very soon from HTC.

Unfortunately for HTC fans, it turns out that the so-called One X9 is just a mid-range device positioned just below the HTC One A9 when it comes to specs.

This means that the One X9 won't pack a Quad HD display, 3GB or 4GB RAM, Snapdragon 820 or Helio X20 chipset, or 3,500 mAh battery.

In fact, famous leaker @evleaks claims the One X9 will launch on the market as HTC E56, and it will come with much lower specs. Also, judging by its hardware, the E56 likely belongs to the Desire family.

For example, HTC E56 is said to sport a large 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports a full HD (1080p) resolution, not Quad HD.

It will probably come preloaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow

The smartphone will feature just 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage expandable up to 2TB via microSD card slot. The E56 is rumored to pack a 13-megapixel main camera with autofocus, LED flash, OIS (optical image stabilization), and video recording.

In the front, HTC E56 will feature a 4-Ultra-Pixel selfie camera. According to the cited source, the smartphone will drain energy from a 3,000 mAh battery, which is still good despite previous rumors.

In the same piece of news, HTC insider @LlabTooFeR states that the HTC One X9 or E56 will launch in Q1 2016. The Taiwanese company plans to release the smartphone 2 or 3 months before the HTC launches its One M10 flagship device.

He also points out that this is rather a budget-friendly smartphone, not a flagship as previous rumors suggested. We expect the HTC E56 to arrive in China initially, but the smartphone is likely to benefit from a global rollout.

There are no details on availability and price yet, but more info on the HTC E56 (HTC One X9) should emerge in the coming weeks.
