Video game developer Blizzard is using its major convention to announce a range of new content that will be introduced to Heroes of the Storm over the coming months, including a new mode and more characters, offering gamers more variety and more ways to enjoy the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena experience.

The new heroes that gamers will able to use are:

- Lunara, the first daughter of Cenarius, a range assassin who is able to move quickly in and out of combat and use spears and toxins to disable her enemies;

- Greymane, the leader of the Worgen, is able to move between human and beast forms in order to keep opponents off balance and use the abilities that allow him to quickly take them out;

- Cho’Gall, the chieftain of the Twillight’s Hammer clan, who mixes both warrior and assassin capabilities in one character and is the first character in the history of the video game that can be controlled by two players who need to carefully mix their actions to make him effective.

The new battleground for Heroes of the Storm is called Towers of Doom and will introduce a unique twist on the traditional formula of the MOBA.

Gamers will be unable to directly destroy the barrier that protects the enemy core and will instead need to deal with altars that will then enable bell towers to fire on the structure, creating more complex battles.

Blizzard will share more details about the heroes and the new battleground as they get closer to being launched as part of future game updates.

Heroes of the Storm is also getting a new Arena experience

The new mode for the Blizzard title will feature teams of five players battling each other in close quarters engagements using a best-out-of-three system, with a battlefield that constantly evolves around them.

The developer explains on the official site that, ”All who enter the Arenas must select one of three random heroes offered to them before the start of each match. Players will be able to see all the choices available to their teammates and coordinate on these Hero picks. Once players enter the Arena, they’ll choose their Heroic Abilities and ride directly into battle to capture Temples or topple Garden Terrors on their quest to destroy the opposing Core.”

The studio wants each phase of the Arena matches to last a few minutes only, and once a core is destroyed, all players get moved to a new battleground.

There will be no restrictions placed on the number of times a single character can appear in a team’s roster, and Blizzard believes the tweaks will ensure epic engagements between skilled players.

It’s unclear when Arena Battlegrounds will be added to Heroes of the Storm and whether the company plans to launch any special events to celebrate its addition.

During BlizzCon, a World Championship for the MOBA is taking place, with fans all over the world able to see the best players in the world in action and gain some insight into how the game will evolve in the coming months.
