A lot of fans were impressed with the opening cinematic that developer 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft delivered for Halo 5: Guardians, and the two companies are ready to offer some more behind-the-scenes details about it and how it was created.

Brien Goodrich, the director, and Greg Towner, senior animator working on the shooter, explain that the initial design for the sequence always focused on Fireteam Osiris and the characters that gamers will be able to take control of during the campaign.

The two developers state, "Once Osiris jumps out of the pelican, all of the animation is hand keyed. Utilizing the same 'cube' Spartans technique, I blocked in a very rough pass so we could get a feel of the size and scope of the action. Before 343 I had worked on the Transformers movies, so I’m accustomed to doing big action set pieces."

Actual stunt man data and careful digital editing were used to make the skydive sequence in the Halo 5: Guardians opening cinematic believable and the development team worked with AXIS to complete effects, lighting and more.

343 Industries also thanks Kazuma Jinnouchi for the score of the cinematic while also acknowledging the contributions of Brian Reed, Stuart Aiken, Debbie Ross, Damon Conn and Steve Dyck.

Halo 5: Guardians will expand on the Master Chief saga

The character has been the focal point of the biggest games in the franchise, and for the new campaign 343 Industries is determined to give him an exciting supporting cast and to create some interesting narrative moments that gamers will be able to explore.

Halo 5: Guardians will introduce Locke and his own companions in order to deliver a new perspective on the universe and its politics and relations.

For the first time in the history of the franchise, the entire campaign can be played cooperatively by four players, each of which will handle a new character.

343 Industries has said that Master Chief, currently on the run and blamed for atrocities that he did not commit, will show a new facet that was never featured in the series.

Halo 5: Guardians will be offered on the Xbox One on October 27.
